This month we are offering a half-day sesshin, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET, at Zen Studies and via Zoom. The day will include a dharma talk by guest teacher Giun Stefan Streit from Zen Studies Society, an opportunity for interview, liturgy, and lots of zazen.
Giun Stefan Streit has been the temple director at New York Zendo Shobo-ji since early 2019. His first contact with formal Zen took place in 2001, when Nonin Chowaney Roshi of the Nebraska Zen Center visited one of his college classes. Americorps brought him to Seattle after graduation, where he practiced at Chobo-ji under the guidance of Genjo Marinello Roshi. Genjo Roshi referred Giun to Dai Bosatsu Zendo for more intensive training. In 2008 he was ordained by Eido Roshi at DBZ. After leaving the monastery in 2010, he practiced with the nonsectarian Cross River Meditation Sangha in Frenchtown, NJ, and also regularly attended a Quaker meeting with his wife. He returned to DBZ in 2018 to complete his monastic training with Shinge Roshi and in 2023 was authorized as a Dharma Teacher.
Note: Barry will not be participating in this sesshin.
The fee for participation, be it in-person or online, is $5-$50 sliding scale. Please register by completing a short form and making your payment. Registration closes 11/05/26. ZSS Health Protocols apply.
