The Zendo is a center for lay practice, and is open to everyone. It may be particularly appropriate for those who wish to integrate psychotherapy practice, whether as a patient or a therapist in training, with their Zen practice. There are no monks, priests, robes, Dharma names or other denominational features associated with this center, although the basics of traditional Buddhist practice and service are maintained in a fashion designed to be in accord with the procedures of the San Diego Zen Center.
The function of a zendo is to help us pay attention to the nature of our moment to moment experience. Sustained attention is difficult for all of us, but it can be supported by a practice of disciplined silent sitting.
